A couple years ago at work, one of the policy wonks was griping about Christians making a big to-do about Christmas. A Christian retorted that non-Christians ought to lighten up. I told them they had it all wrong. I’m sick and tired of Christians and secularists bastardizing a Pagan holiday: we need to start having sex parties under the mistletoe.
That, of course, put an end to the debate.
Seriously, I have not a dog in the fight over Christmas. While I enjoy making the trip to Philadelphia, and buying gifts for my brother and nieces, I cannot say that I have special affections for a Pagan holiday with a Christian veneer. I’m a Christian, and enjoy celebrating the birth of Jesus. I just would rather do it on a day other than one which coincides with a Pagan holiday.
If secularists want to rule Christmas, all I can say is to hell with Yule! Literally.
If the state of Christianity depends on how our world treats secularized Pagan holidays, then the Church is in for a world of hurt.
Note to Fellow Christians: To Hell with Yule
