01/29/2007: 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, who suffered a catastrophic leg injury in the Preakness, has been euthanized.

This should have happened a long time ago–had any other horse suffered such injuries, the decision would have been a no-brainer–but Barbaro defied the odds for almost a year, and nearly won.
