Much Ado About Nothing

August 18th, 2007

08/18/2007: In the interests of fair disclosure, I am a hardcore libertarian who intends to vote for Ron Paul in the primaries, and have absolutely no inclination to vote for John Edwards.

On the other hand, the Wall Street Journal–and conservative blogger Michelle Malkin–are making hay out of a non-issue.

Fact is, Edwards worked for–and invested in–a company that held a stake in another firm that foreclosed on some Katrina-slammed homeowners.

This was not a a matter about which Edwards would be expected to have firsthand information.

(He should, however, act on the knowledge he has now, and I expect that he will.)

Furthermore, whatever Edwards’ transgressions may be in this case, they pale in comparison with former Pat Robertson lackey Ralph Reed, who tacitly supported subjecting citizens of the Nothern Mariana Islands to forced abortions, forced prostitution, and child slavery.

Where was Malkin on that? Where was Hewitt? Where was Medved? Where the hell were Hannity and Rush?

Were they all–fearful of the backlash from the Mark [peda]Foley scandal–trying to keep Christian conservatives from telling the GOP to do something anatomically impossible in November 2006 (which I did here, herehere, here, and on election day, without apology)?

I have 7 words for those lackeys: I don’t care who wins next year! (more on why later)

I won’t vote for Hillary–or Obama, or Edwards for that matter–but I refuse to support GOP pander bears who piss on my leg while claiming it is thunderstorming. Other than Ron Paul, I have no use for any of the GOP candidates.

Other than Paul, I’ll take my cat over anyone in the field right now.

The GOP lost badly last year, and deserved even worse.

  • Bush has been a complete disgrace;
  • the GOP-led Congress established an all-time track record for sleaze and corruption;
  • and the Bush-Greenspan Fed has handed us two of three bubbles (Clinton-Greenspan gave us the tech bubble, Bush-Greenspan-Bernanke handed us the real estate and corporate merger bubbles, all due to horrible monetary policy) that leave us on the verge of a collapse in the financial markets.

Now we have a two-party field of Candidates That Suck. Between the neocons in the GOP and the neocommies in the DNC, this is the worst group of Presidential hopefuls since the Nixon-McGovern charade.

But Malkin is not going to score any points for me by bashing Edwards, given that she is treating most of the GOP hopefuls with feather pillows.

Edwards has his issues, but this isn’t one of them.
