There were several things he noted, that I have also experienced. Here is one of the all-time stupid statements by a clergy (emphasis mine):
One ordained minister (also the son of a pastor) said to me, when I asked for insights regarding how important courage is to our spiritual growth: “I don’t understand the connection between courage and faith.”
Whatever body ordained that guy, was smoking something that ought to be legal but isn’t.
If that is representative of the quality of counsel and teaching we are getting from pulpits–and I’ve seen enough to know there’s more of it than we want to admit–the Church in the United States might as well be Laodicea II.
It makes me almost want to go back to seminary.
