so … daddy takes responsibility for his daughter’s virginity … whoa … that leads to a plethora of abuse … cause he’s not gonna let her out of his sight. and he’s gonna want to teach her how a man should be a boyfriend.
and she’s not going to take responsibility for her choices b/c it’s her dad’s responsibility … unless he scares the bejeebers outa her and she’s terrified to leave the kitchen.
this is so bad on so many levels. so sick.
and the broadmore is a very nice hotel … cannot imagine the cost of that purity ball.
Once I commented on a web page that was troubled by this, but couldn’t put their finger on it. I pointed out that there was a very strong class element present in this, which was well received. The thing that is disturbing at the intuitive level is that we can see an outward ritual, basically, which might — or might not — have any bearing in what happens in the home. There is a woman on youtube who was a featured person on a “purity ball” video who went on to become a “pan sexual’ person in her college days (the video may have been deleted, as I presently cannot find it). I am speaking, mind you, as a dancer; someone trained in improvisational ballroom, mind you; more commonly called tango. (I am aware of churches that forbid dancing, but accept father-daughter “purity balls” – go figure). This washing the outside of the cup; a way of celebrating the “community’s” morals, but has very little to do, actually, with what is taught in the home. This is Calvinism writ actual, with no apologies to actual Calvinists who are reading this. If the daughter, daughter in law, or grand daughter knows to the depth of their souls they are loved, they are in state a where they morally have all the protection they need, save for obscure things like rape-rape, which is a different thing than gender feminist rape where “rape” has occurred is someone has flirted with them. I don’t see any long – term fruit from these “purity balls”. Unless there exist christian fathers so dense that they need to enact rituals to have any glimpse of moral understanding. I believe there are christian fathers who may be so dense; but I do not believe these dance events will help them fulfill their duties to God and their family.
While I have plenty of issues with Calvinists and Calvinism, I wouldn’t attribute this practice to Calvinism. Truth be told, this is something that would go on at some Independent, hard-shell Baptist churches (which are quite Arminian).
This is cultural fundamentalism on steroids. This looks like something that Jack Schaap might have promoted at one time.
A friend of mine told me her husband had once courted a gal who had been to one of these “purity balls”. Good thing for both of them that the “courtship” didn’t work out. I feel sorry for the gal, however.
Seriously…what man on earth would want a father-in-law like that?
I kind of appreciate what they’re trying to do– I mean, when parents are involved in their kids’ lives, kids put sexual activity off for longer. But man, that execution is as creepy as anything.
Uber creepy. This looks like something the pastor thought was a good idea and the church went along to be supportive. Eventually, everyone is going to wish they were never a part of this.
Yep. When I saw the story I was like, “What. The. Hell???” Had any of these idiots considered how creepy this is? This is on the same par with Middle Eastern tribal regions, and in fact much worse than most of them.
we’ve gone from “Jesus is my boyfriend” to “Daddy is my boyfriend.”
these people are sick.
and it’s incestuous.
i bet the percentage of incest is high in these families.
Incestuous is exactly the first word that came to mind.
Gross. Just gross.
Seriously…when I saw that, I thought of Jack Schaap.

that’s who i thought of, too. though i’ve seen similar in the bill gothard group.
Doug Phillips and Bill Gothard were the first two names which came to my mind when I read the article.
Speaking of Doug Phillips, check out this article:

i would guess the fathers are weak men who use things like this, and zero-tolerance “discipline” in an attempt to control their families.

this is sooo sick
