09/30/2006: House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) has been attempting to play dumb about FoleyGate, saying he was unaware of Foley’s sexual messages to a 16-year-old page.
However, Thomas Reynolds (R-NY) insists that he told Hastert about the content of the messages.
Given that the text messages in question are over a year old, it behooves the GOP leadership to explain why this has been under a rug all this time.
It is possible that Reynolds’ implication of Hastert’s knowledge is a CYA ploy; however, this scandal–as well as the Abramoff scandal–happened on Hastert’s watch.
Hastert needs to resign.
Now.
