One More Reason to Hate Public Schools

Ame brought this to my attention.

Do you still believe in public education? If so, you have crossed the line between faith and stupidity.

  1. grrrrrrrrr … this incenses me beyond my ability to articulate effectively. makes me want to scream and wring some neck good.

and which is why i stay very much ‘in their face’ with the staff at my girls’ school. it only takes one bleepin bleep of a teacher to destroy a child in such a way it takes years to overcome.

  2. After having read the story I’m so angry I could spit had the cleaning crew not just mopped the floors at the office. I experienced bullying in middle school from both fellow students and at least one teacher, so I’ve learned firsthand what these experiences can be like. 35 years have passed since I finished middle school and I still haven’t fully overcome the effects.

I hope someone works with the kids involved to show them this isn’t the way to treat another student. As for the teacher, I hope her professional license is revoked. She has no business being in the teaching profession with that kind of attitude.

  3. i put my oldest in counseling a month ago with a very experienced and excellent psychologist. he spent the first visit with both she and i … the next three with her alone, and today her dad and i visited with him. this turned out to be a very good thing.

i brought up this story … the psychologist was incensed. a little later i shared how my oldest’s homeroom teacher told my friend, in the hallways of school while filled with parents and children, that her daughter was failing … the psychologist was incensed. i began to tell him something about fifth grade when my ex shot an evil sideways look and vehemently stated that i don’t know anything about fifth grade. i let it go for awhile. then i brought up that my friend’s fifth grade son, for simply being “all-boy” as momma’s often say, became a focus of attention for his teacher. the teacher decided to let the class vote on how to discipline him … the psychologist was incensed. and, in a very respectful yet solid way, he stated all three of these instances were very inappropriate … in front of and to my ex … who blows stuff like this off. i was validated, and a level of protection was placed around my daughter.

my ex wants to push the children until the do and become what he wants. knowing that our oldest has a natural tendency to need stronger encouragement than some, i asked the psychologist how far we should push her. he let it sit for awhile given my ex joined the conversation, then brough it up later. he said to push her till she gets frustrated, then to back off. again, i was validated, and another level of protection was placed around my daughter. if my ex had it his way, he would push her. period. he believes the teachers. period.

i am thankful God provided a way to have these truths presented to my ex by an experienced, commended, professional. i am thankful to be able to be so involved in the lives of my children in public education since i do not have a choice. i am thankful to also be able to set a fire under those parents God brings my way to fight for the protection of their children in this public school district … which, undeniably, is one of the most prestigeous in the state. (whether it deserves that commendation or not is a different story)

  4. I’d love to bitch-slap the teacher, in front of the whole class.

Then I’d tell anyone who wants to “vote” a kid out of the class, that he or she must also leave the class.

After all, unless someone has done something to deserve it, you can’t wish for others what you don’t want for yourself.

My class would never be “democratic”. I am a dictator. You don’t get to vote on each other, or even vote on the rules, or vote on the teacher.

  5. Amir – do you ever get to do anything with kids? you’d be a great role model for many out there … especially young boys … who need a real man in their lives to look up to.

    *****

you can ‘bitch slap’ her … and i’ll knock her feet out from under her

  6. Ame: I work with the AWANA group at my church. That is winding down for the summer, but I’ll probably be back at it again in the Fall.
