  1. From the article:

Seventeen of the employees were “at a senior level,” earning salaries of up to $222,418.

Your tax dollars at work – NOT.

  2. Just think of th damage they could have done if they were doing their jobs.

I don’t know how this is even possible. My only computer is blocked at the server from accessing all manner of sites. Really, it just isn’t possible, no matter how hard I try to access porn at work. I also can’t access tasteless, hate, violence, racist, or bikini/lingerie.

Some political blogs I visit are blocked for “sex” bacause they put up a pin up once or twice.

Seriously. It it weren’t for this blog and Drudge report, I might be forced to work while at work too.

I hear ya. Where I work, we have a pretty solid blocking system that exists as much for the protection of employees, as anything else. Before that was put into play, some state employees were fired for porn usage (most of them had several warnings, and at least one that I know of was allowed to retire in lieu of termination.)

But here’s the catch: if a person is operating a laptop in, let’s say, a Starbucks or Barnes & Noble, and is not on a protected network, then he or she may use a government-issued computer to access any varieties of sites.

If they were operating within that network, and were able to get to such sites, then that would seem to be due to the policies of the network team.

  4. i figured there had to be something allowing them access … my husband’s work-issued laptop is very restricted … he can’t access facebook (much to my chagrin; i’m addicted; and it’s amir’s fault) and cannot access youtube and i can’t send him pics.

there had to be someone doing something figuring out/allowing a way for them to get thru
